Off-leash: Heritage Park, four minutes away

The Town of The Blue Mountains runs an off-leash dog park in Heritage Park on Kandahar Lane in Craigleith. It's about 300 metres from the chalet, roughly a four-minute walk. The park is open from 6 am to 10 pm and has its own parking lot.

Everywhere else in town, dogs have to be on a leash whenever they're off their owner's property, and owners must pick up after them. The Town fines owners for both.

More off-leash parks nearby:

  • Moreau Park in Thornbury.
  • Pawplar Dog Park in Collingwood, at Poplar Sideroad and Portland Street, with a separate area for small dogs.
  • Central Park dog park on Hume Street in Collingwood.

Is Blue Mountain Village dog-friendly?

Yes, with limits. The Blue Mountain Village Association says leashed dogs are welcome around the Village, along with many patios and some trails. Dogs aren't allowed inside most buildings, in some dining areas, or in parts of the resort.

  • The Open-Air Gondola doesn't take pets. Service animals with proper documentation are allowed.
  • Dogs can't ride the resort shuttles.
  • The resort's rules also keep dogs out of its restaurants, the spa and Blue Mountain Beach.
  • Mountain hiking trails need a ticket or pass. Check the resort's rules for dogs before you go.

From the chalet, the Village is about a 17 to 20-minute walk, depending on where you're headed, or a few minutes by car.

Walks with a dog

Georgian Trail

A flat rail trail along Georgian Bay between Collingwood and Meaford. Dogs must stay on a leash, and owners must pick up. In winter the Town grooms it for walking, skiing, snowshoeing and fat biking. The nearest access is off Lakeshore Road East in Craigleith, about a 4 km drive.

Bruce Trail

The Blue Mountains section passes Blue Mountain Resort and the Pretty River valley. Where dogs are allowed, the Bruce Trail Conservancy asks that they stay on a leash and under control. Some areas don't allow dogs, so check the signs.

Dog beaches

Ontario Parks keeps dogs off beaches and swimming areas except at designated dog beaches, and leashes in provincial parks must be 2 metres or shorter. Craigleith Provincial Park, about a nine-minute drive, lists two dog beaches. Its day-use season runs from April to mid-October. Wasaga Beach Provincial Park also has a dog beach.

Bark 'N Blue

Blue Mountain Village hosted Bark 'N Blue, a dog festival, on October 3, 2026. It had a group hike, a Best in Show, a lure course and adoptable dogs, and raised money for the Georgian Triangle Humane Society. Watch the Village events page for next year's date.
